How to keep progress photos private

By David Pintarič, maker of ProgressLens · Updated October 29, 2026

Body photos show up in the worst places: a shared family album, a Memories slideshow, a photo widget on your home screen. Here’s how to keep them where they belong.

Short answer

Store progress photos outside your main photo library: in a progress photo app that keeps them in its own storage (like ProgressLens), or in iPhone’s Hidden album or Google Photos’ Locked Folder. Turn off auto-sharing, and back up deliberately to somewhere you control.

Sharing safely

Share a single before-and-after image rather than your whole history, crop at the chin if you prefer, and remove location data. Photos exported from ProgressLens comparisons are new images; your original check-ins stay in the app.

Backups

A private journal still needs a backup. ProgressLens creates a ZIP you can save to a drive or computer you trust. It isn’t encrypted, so don’t leave it in a shared folder.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Are photos in apps private?

It depends on the app. Check whether it requires an account, uploads to a cloud and saves to your camera roll. ProgressLens does none of these.
